  1. “The staunch defence of the highly polluting tar sands industry” comment by you on the beaver vs polar bear debate. What other industries did you compare the oil sands too?Retired after32 years in the big bad tar sands industry and never heard of you being there or talking with company officials? I am curious as to where you got your facts that justified ” highly” and what kind are you talking about? Air, water, land , people. I think you just jumped on the bandwagon.

  2. Dear John,
Thank you for your stridently-expressed opinion. I wonder whether the tar sands were a factor in Canada’s recent decision to withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol. What are your views on Kyoto, by the way?
    Lorraine

  3. You have a lovely Scottish brogue, Lorraine.

  4. Thanks, Andy!

  5. On Pastagate’s (BBC World Service, May 2013) article you describe the québécois as people with dark thoughts about anglophones with your ‘maudits anglos’ ? You look like you feel treated by the francophones? I am one who needs to do an english homework on some articles of your site. I hope you do not generalize a whole population very often. You would be suprise about how open most of the francophone are.

    Still,

    have a great day, human.

    -Anthony

    1. Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I agree that most francophones are very open, especially in Montreal (which has to be one of the most open-minded cities in the world!). The piece was intended to be a humourous sketch of last year’s language madness – which was quite outrageous, especially when viewed through the eyes of someone who’s not been here so long.
Are you going to be at next week’s event? If so, look forward to meeting you.
      Best wishes,
      Lorraine
